Good morning, lakeshore. Grand Haven trailed West Ottawa 40-21 early in the fourth quarter Friday, on homecoming, in front of everybody. Then the Bucs scored the last three touchdowns, and KV Korenstra caught the winner from Easton Hintz with 44 seconds left. The kick that made it 41-40 came from Owen Haveman, a soccer player who kicks part-time and went 5-for-5 on the night. It’s Grand Haven’s fourth win, and the program hasn’t had four since 2019.

In today’s Lowdown:

  • Pink Floyd lasers at the Frauenthal

  • Mona Shores grabs a piece of the OK Green

  • The dentist who put a fountain on a dune

Let’s get into it.

Pink Floyd’s light show hits Western Ave 🌈

The Frauenthal goes full planetarium Friday night.

Dark Side of the Moon is a tribute band that rebuilds a classic Pink Floyd concert from the ground up. You get the music plus the lights, lasers and video those tours were famous for. The goal is to make you feel like you caught the real thing in its prime.

The setlist covers a lot of ground. Expect songs from The Wall and A Momentary Lapse of Reason, plus Wish You Were Here, Meddle and Animals. Bring someone who still owns the vinyl.

It’s one night only. Tickets run $25 to $35 through the Frauenthal box office, which is a lot cheaper than the resale sites. Western Ave is still closed to cars downtown, so leave a few extra minutes to park.

📍 Frauenthal Theater, 425 W Western Ave, Muskegon
🗓️ Fri, Oct 16, 7:30 PM

OPEN WIDE

🌟Only in Muskegon and Grand Haven

After World War II, a Navy dentist named Bill Creason caught a little musical fountain show in a Berlin nightclub. He came home to Grand Haven and became mayor, and instead of putting a fountain in a nightclub, he put one halfway up Dewey Hill. Volunteers built it in 1962 from a design by local engineer William Booth. It was the world’s largest musical fountain until the Bellagio opened in Las Vegas in 1998. The crowd watches from about 800 feet away across the Grand River, so the music is timed to play 0.7 seconds ahead of the water so they arrive together.
